SESTRIERE 2022 Ski Holiday 27th  Feb - 6h  Mar 2022

This Years Skiing Holiday to Sestriere was cancelled because of COVID-19

Hopefully we will get a big Group to go in 2022.

An Event has been created HERE for those interested.

(So bring Wives / Husbands / Girlfriends / Boyfriends or friends), a few single rooms are also available for solo Skiers if not wanting to share.

So the Ball is in your Court if you would like to give it a go as a few of us are all going again.

Dates will be Sun 27th Feb 2022 for 1 week (1 week after Half term for Schools). We will be going to Sestriere in Italy again with Crystal Ski (TUI) (Link HERE)  (As it offers Great resort level skiing with guaranteed snow, Resort height is over 2000 meters)

We are booking the Du Col Hotel again this Year which is a Half Board, Ski in Ski out hotel with secure heated ski/boots lockers, offering excellent food (Served with free Red and White wine) and has its own popular Bar (open to the Public) with Entertainment Nightly.

However there are lots of Hotels around and not just for Crystal Ski as Inghams, Neilsons etc.. do similar packages to the same location or everything can be booked separately (Equipment hire and passes are priced reasonably).

We are going back to Sestriere again next year as it offers lots of skiing in the various resorts, and has some very good slopes for all types of skiers. The Area pass gives access to all of the Milky way and also one Day in France (Mongenevre).

Sestriere is in the Middle of the Milky Way which offers 400km of slopes linked by lifts to other ski resorts including: Sauze d'Oulx, Sansicario, Claviere and Mongenevre in France, So for the Experienced, We can visit the other resorts with the Area passes.

60th Anniversary 2022 Commando Gunners (May 1962 - May 2022)

The 60th Anniversary of the Commando Gunners will be held in Plymouth over the weekend of the 13th - 15th of May 2022. The event is open to all ranks (including attached arms) who served from the formation until the current day. Those who wish to attend are requested to complete the attached Performa and return it promptly to allow for forward planning. The outline format of the weekend is as follows:

NOTE: Entrance to the Royal Citadel, you and your guests will require a wristband to gain entry on Saturday and Sunday, the wristbands can be collected Friday night or Saturday morning from a member of the committee.


Friday 13th May 2022

This will be a meet and greet social event around the Barbican with a Curry or a Hog Roast at a cost of £5 per head. Note: YOU CANNOT pay on the night numbers and payments are required, in advance (Payment details below) RETURNS MUST BE SENT TO THE CGR SECRETARY

Saturday 14th May 2022

AM, Freedom of the City Parade with the serving Regiment. Following a similar route to that of the Commando 50th Parade.

The preferred dress (not essential) for participants would be Blazer with Beret and Medals, Slacks, Collar and Tie.  

It is particularly important to have you there, so if you don’t have the aforementioned attire, you will still be welcome to join the Parade.

Commando Gunner Regroup Annual General Meeting

Immediately after the Freedom of the City Parade the AGM will be held in the Spean Bridge Club (NAAFI), and it is important that as many of you as possible attend to discuss the future of the organization. An agenda will be circulated nearer the time but please note that the current committee will be standing down from their positions after three years and will not be re-standing for election, the CGR needs your support. Those of you who willing and able to serve on the committee for the next two years are requested to notify either the current Chairman or Secretary of your interest by email to:

Saturday 14th May 2022

PM. Post AGM there will be Lunch Break during which you can get refreshments from the Marquee on the Regimental Square where there will also be a display of current Equipment and individual Battery History stands.  

There will also be a ‘family themed’ fun day until 1600hrs.

From that point on there will be refreshments and entertainment which will run from 1600hrs until 2130hrs, this timing will allow the Regiment to clear the camp and lock it down for security reasons. Those who wish are free to continue the motion down at the Barbican  

Sunday 15th May 2022

1100hrs (TBC) A Memorial Service will be conducted at the Regimental Memorial, dress again is as for the Parade but not essential whereas your attendance is. This will be followed by a Curry Lunch with further refreshments inside the Citadel.


The Citadel must be cleared of all attendees by early evening for security reasons, again those whose livers are still functioning, are free to carry on down at the Barbican.

Falklands 40th Anniversary

A 40th Anniversary reunion of the Falkland Islands Campaign will take place in 2022 - Dates as of yet (tbc)

It is appreciated that many of our members worked with other units and detachments during the conflict and will probably wish to attend said units detachments services either in there areas or elsewhere on the 14th of June

However It is intended to hold an event here in Plymouth dates to be confirmed I say this because The 14th of June 2022 falls on a Tuesday so decisions have to be made as to the benefits of holding the event on the weekend prior or on the date of the surrender its a wait out at this moment in time I am afraid

Second Reunion Meeting

Some points from the  Meeting which took place at RM Condor on 09 Nov 21

Insurance Cover. Very Important

All those Veterans and NOK who are planning to  attend the forthcoming Reunion are advised that they should seriously consider taking out their own Insurance.

The insurance should cover cancellation of the Reunion and subsequent to that cost for accommodation that has been booked, Clearly for those attending from Overseas cancellation of flights  should be taken  in to account.

Additionally the Covid 19/ Lockdown situation at the time  could be a possible ŕeason for the Reunion to be cancelled.


No Tentage will be made available. Veterans may bring their own tent.

No hook up facilities will be available for Motorhomes/Caravans

Power will be available in the Pavilion

Access to RM Condor for Veterans using the above only will be given during the afternoon of Friday  10th June. A 2/3 Hour window will be designated. Times Tbc. There will be no exceptions to this time window.

The Mountain Way. A Charity which is run by our own Andy Shaw , dealing one on one for those with PTSD.

Secondly ongoing maintenance requirements for the continuing upkeep of the 13 Oaks

Falklands Memorial Gardens at Barry Buddon. This is administered by RMA EOS

RM Band

Due to the current uncertainty surrounding Band  Committments for HM Queen's Platinium

Jubilee Celebrations ( 05 June 2022) there is a possibility that we may not be allocated a Band for our Reunion. Alternative arrangements are being addressed, probably a local Pipe Band. Update  in the New Year.

A Social Function is planned for the evening of Friday 10 June at the RBL Function Rooms in Arbroath hosted by RMA EOS

Also their will be a Memorial Service at the 13 Oaks, Barry Buddon , Mid Afternoon on Sun 12 June .
